Brad and Paula Sholtz

This and That
February 27, 2010

Seems I'm getting slower at updating these days.  I'm trying to get over a nasty cold and now Brad has one.  I can't even remember the last time I had a head cold but we got em but good this time.  I had a dental cleaning Wednesday and I dreaded trying to lay back in the chair and breathe at the same time but got through it with no problems.  Now I'm free from dentists until another check up in May.

We were supposed to hit 50 degrees today, don't think it got quite that warm but was still a very nice day.  I walked my 2 miles yesterday and again today.  According to the weather man, we're going to be in the 40's for the next 10 days.  That makes me very happy, at least we're starting to warm up regularly.  I'm so ready for spring.  When I got back from my walk I got more tree limbs picked up and piled, lots of yard work to get going on.  Nope, still don't have that darn bedroom painted.  The plan was to paint last weekend but we woke up to minus one windchill and I helped with chores instead.  It's too cold for one person to be out there several hours trying to do it all alone.  So maybe next weekend.  With both of us under the weather, we both do chores.  Weenies, I know, lol.  Sokay, I'll get it done soon.  Problem is, when the weather starts getting nicer, I don't like to stay in and work, I'd rather be outside.

Yaaaay!!  The Superior Express finally updated their website.  I hadn't read a newspaper from them since Jan. 7th.  I see by the Editor's Page that they were having server troubles.  So I missed nearly two months worth of news from my hometown.  At least it's up and running again and even though it's only a once a week publication, I do enjoy reading it.  I get the shortened version online so I can't read the local news, you know like Bob and Harry went to visit Granny McNanny last Sunday and they ate supper and a good time was had by all.......LOL....But I get the news stuff and that's good enough.  I don't take any newspaper subscriptions.  The Abilene paper is a daily and it would take me all of about 2 minutes and 10 seconds to read.  Not worth paying for.  I can read most of that one online too.

We took Bailey to the vet Friday to get her leg wrap off and this time it's healed good enough to leave it off.  She still carries that leg and we take her out on a lead so she doesn't get all crazy and start running after the horses and end up breaking it again.  This winter, I've been just letting the dogs out first thing in the morning, they do their thing and come right back in but now I have to get the warm clothes on and take her out.  Hopefully, within a couple weeks, I can start letting them out alone again.

Today was baby bed cleaning, worming and toenail trimming day.  Got both litters done and swept the whelping house out good.  I've got Fuzzys Snowcone and Fairy Magic in their new digs.  Both are bred and settled in.  We have 3 dogs from the Bluffs home now so they are in the empty pens in the whelping house.  Brad can sprint them every day from there so we can keep them in shape to leave for Victoryland.....if they ever get that place back open.  I hope they get their problems settled pretty soon.  I'm sure Jake is keeping the dogs all sprinted the best he can so they're ready to race when they reopen.

I'm missing my At The Track page on here, mostly for my own use.  Might have to put that one back on.  Plus I was thinking of adding a Guest Book page.  Anyway, I keep track of my track dogs by looking at my own page, lol.  ICU Twinkie is at Naples and she won both her B and her A back to back.  I know I don't always update the 'grades' but I know what they're doing most of the time.  We're also moving ICU Zamboni to Flagler.  I really want to see him in 3/8ths.  Can't get the Derby Lane guy to put him over.  He's going to the Jim Campbell Kennel and he said he'd give him a shot at the distance.  Hey, if he can't run it, then so be it but let's at least give him a shot and more than once.   So if I add a Guest Book page, will you sign it?  Make a comment?  We'll see if that one flies.

Not much from the girls this week, they keep busy at work.  But at least they call now and then to let mom and pops know they're ok.

Again, Thanks to Mark Arno for bringing my Bluffs dogs home.  They look great (thanks Jeana) and seemed happy to be back at the farm.  Thank goodness it's only a temporary situation, they can still race.  At least I'm not getting them home for adoption.

My plants look amazing.  Water does wonders : )

We've got a couple broods and some pups coming next week so I'm getting pens ready for their arrival.  The countdown is one month.  That's one month until we kennel the April pups.  We've got some big ones !!  So for those of you whose pups we're kennelling, I'll be emailing you for your choice of kennel names for your dogs.  Tom lets me call his whatever I want so I'll wait til you guys all give me your names and then I'll name his.  I'll probably do each of his litters with one letter.  Kiowa Mon Manny's with a K and the Trent Lee's with a T.  I'll rack my brain and try to come up with something original for a change, lol.  In the early years we sure had alot of Annie's in the kennel because we used to name everybody by the letter in their ear.  So Annie always came up several times a year.

We should have 3 or 4 more females coming in season pretty soon.  Several look close so with the warm up, I'd be guessing we'll have more in season.

Well, that's about it for tonight.
     So til next time....

     Paula
