This and That
August 30, 2010

Evidently, we here in Kansas are just a bunch of heathens.  We can't get any rain to speak of, it's so stinkin hot again you can't breathe, we're currently fried to a crackly crunch and today the wind is blowing like crazy.  : )  It cooled off for a couple days or so and now we're back at this HOT crap again.  I'm going to be so glad when summer is really over.  I can't wait for the 50's and I'm dead serious.

     I'm loving my pool : - )

We finally got the younger pups all done in the field and the whirly so the plan is to handslip the new ones after they watch the veterans school on Wednesday.  We made sure the second schooling trailer was ready to go.  Well, at least the flat tire is pumped up so we'll know later tonight or tomorrow if it stays or if we need a new tire.  Guess I better check it for wasps in the morning.  The old man doesn't check for wasps, that's my job, lol.  He's a chicken.

We had a fun weekend with our company.  Erin and Casey came Saturday morning and my friend from Guide Rock, Sherry, came early afternoon and then Sam showed up that evening.  Erin and Casey did alot of helping around here again and I so appreciate that because I was able to get my whelping house all swept up and got Missile's bed freshly cleaned and papered for her to whelp in a couple days.  Erin vaccinated my Bonex - Slammer puppies for me and Casey fixed a couple doors that needed fixing.  They picked up my pens and hosed off cement, trimmed the broods toenails, hauled trash, watered pups ......Dang, I wish I could actually find some help that would do that.   Not happenning though.

Casey put my trim on my new walls and it looks so nice.  They brought us some pictures, Indian stuff and animals etched in glass.  Oh, they bought us a wall hanging, not sure if I'll put it up inside or outside but it's made of metal and it says "We don't call 911"  and has a hand gun below that.  Too cute.  That's right up Brad's alley, lol.  So that's the stuff I'm going to hang on my walls one day when I decide where to hang it all.

We enjoyed a little time in the pool Saturday late afternoon and then stayed up too late to watch the UFC fights.  A bunch of good fights, too.  BJ Penn got beat by Frankie Edgar again and Randy Couture 'welcomed' James Toney to the world of Mixed Martial Arts, lol.  I mean, Toney thought he was going to come in and knock Couture out but Randy took him down and it was over in about 2 minutes or so.  Gray Maynard totally dominated Kenny Florian and there sure was alot of noise in this house.  Brad and I were rooting for Maynard and everybody else was for Kenny.  So there was alot of trash talkin going on.

Next weekend, Erin and Casey are coming back and they're bringing Lane.  Can't wait to see him again, I hear he's grown a foot or so.  Casey's parents are also coming for a day so we'll get to meet them.  Sounds like the weather is supposed to be a little cooler, like in the 80's.  That's much more tolerable than these high 90's.  It surely HAS to cool off pretty soon for heavens sake.

We have 6 dogs leaving for Southland on Sep. 14th.  They're the Fairy Magic - Deerfield Site pups (John Lowe and Brett Horyna)  and they are a pretty nice litter overall.  Not a short one in the bunch so I think they should do well there.  Then we should have several more leaving in September as well so that will cut the kennel down quite a bit and we're both looking forward to that.  Sixty dogs is quite a chore just in the kennel alone.  We're going to keep it in the neighborhood of 40 or less from here on out.  I'm sure we could handle any number but this summer heat was a total bear.  We had to start very early every morning to get the main training done before it got too hot.  It's going to be nice when we can give the central air units a break.  The whelping house AC has pretty much been run 24/7 and the kennel got turned on the minute we turned out and it ran all day until after late turnout.  We don't run it at night because I don't trust man made machines.  At least in the whelping house, those girls can get water and go outside if they want.  Plus we have huge fans blowing in both buildings. Yup, nice electric bills this summer : (

The vet is coming out Thursday morning to vaccinate all 26 dogs that are ready to leave so we'll be ready when they're all being shipped.  Plus I have one DNA to have done and we'll have them do that while they're here.  Fuzzys Missile (Joe Frenette) is due to whelp Sep. 1 and she has a tummy full.  I'm pretty sure Fuzzys Gemstone (John Lowe) is pregnant because she's starting to leave some of her morning feed.  Can't tell yet on Stargazing (Monte Hoopes) but I should know in another week or so if she's going to have pups.  The run dogs are all doing fine in this heat but you sure have to feel sorry for them on these hot days.  Thank goodness for all these trees, they make some good shade.  Hopefully, next week when we drop to the 80's we can dump all these pools and stack them in the garage until next summer.  But the run pups have held their weight well.  In fact, I've added another 30 pounds of feed just this past week.  So they're eating up.

I need to call my tree man this week and see when they can get here to take out this tree.  Seems like they sure take their time getting back to a person so I'll call and bug him instead : )  We need to get that done before we end up having some big storm and the darn thing comes down on my kennel.  Back up plan is already figured out....we'd have to rent kennels at the NGA I guess.  But I don't want to have to do that so they need to get here and get this done.

Well, I need to kick back a bit and relax before turnout.  Tomorrow is a rest day for the WHOLE kennel....yee haw !!  We haven't been getting too many of those but now that we have everybody doing the same thing, we can get some other stuff done.  We sprinted them all today so we're ready for Wednesday's schooling.  Only thing about shipping out the April pups is......then we get to move in 9 August pups and 4 September pups, lol.  It's still going to be less than 60.  Shipping out 26 and moving in 13...I can handle that.  We've already worked them in the runs a little bit and they're going to be very easy to train.

     Soooo....

     Til next time.....
